MATCH WEEK 9
...and what a weekend it was. The Halibut Flounderers set a new record for a weekly total the previous week with 106 points... that is now the fourth best. With a huge forty goals conceded, including four teams letting in four or more, there were a lot of Nightmare points around. We had players rated a ridiculous 2/10 (take a bow Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba), that's 10 extra points. Norwich's run of two clean sheets came to a spectacular end as they let in seven.
GRECIANS INTO TOP 10
If you had told me in the early weeks of the season that Grecians-2000 would be setting a new high-score record and moving into the overall top 10 by Week 9 I would have immediately had you sectioned. With what to me is a pretty awful looking Nightmare Squad, Grecians were 27th after Week 4 but they continue their meteoric rise since, up to 10th this week with 120 points. Bob Thomas' Man United pairing at the back of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw scored 23 points each, Captain James Tarkowski earned Grecians 26, and there were double figures too for Matt Targett (15), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (11) and Harry Kane (10).
OH MR SIMPKINS WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
It was an excellent week for Forfun with 109 points, third best for the week and indeed the season. However Tim Simpkins' boys could and probably should have been top of the lot. While new signings David de Gea and Harry Maguire were earning The Fun 53 points between them, for some crazy reason Tim decided to make Norwich's Max Aarons the last choice sub. While all Forfun's other subs came in, Max and his 25 points were left warming the bench. Tim made four transfers for Match Week 9, the four totaled 41 points between them, though most from Tim's inspired Man United signings: Maguire 23, De Gea 15 (and Captained), Saka 3, Tierney was missing. However the four boys discarded scored just one less point. Martinez 5, Cash 11, Brandon Williams 13, Aubameyang 11.
MISSED OPPORTUNITIES
While Forfun's omission of Aarons was the biggest single-player selection error of the Match Week, Ipswich Invincibles suffered even worse. Of Ipswich's squad, only Jordan Ayew did not play - surprisingly, as he had played in every single Palace match previously - starting seven, one as sub. James Willingham got some choices badly wrong though - their two best performers on the week were Lucas Digne and Tyrone Mings who both scored 17, but remained on the bench. Had James selected the two ahead of Livramento and Gudmundsson, Ipswich would still be 3rd overall, but they slip to 6th.
CAPTAIN CHOICES
Mr Magoo's selection of Max Aarons as Captain reaped the greatest rewards - 20 points doubled up to 50. Other excellent choices:
- The Halibut Flounderers, Tim Krul (19 = 38)
- Al's Army and Clem Fandango, Grant Hanley (17 = 34)
- The only way is down, Tyrone Mings (17 = 34)
- Gareth Bagel, Fred (16 = 32)
- Forfun, David de Gea (15 = 30)
- Grecians -2000, James Tarkowski (13 = 26)
- Relegation Terrorists, Robert Sanchez (13 = 26)

At the wrong end of the scale, Hammered's decision to give Ben Johnson the armband was somewhat ill-advised (-3 doubled up to -6), while AthleticoBonhillAcademical also had a negative Captain with Angelo Ogbonna (-1 = -2).
TOP TRANSFERS
Great business from U Kante Beat Me, five transfers. In came De Gea (15), Wan-Bissaka (19), Reguilon (5), Westwood (7), Maddison (1 but left on bench). Out went McGovern (0), Charlie Taylor (7), Ben White (3), Schlupp (1) and Xhaka (injured). Net gain 36 points. They still fell three places overall though!

AthleticoBonhillAcademical gained 22 points, buying Darlow and Digne, selling Woodman and Sorensen. They also fell three places! Meanwhile Gareth Bagel bought Fred (16), Sean Longstaff (4), Nicolas Pepe (0) and Neal Maupay (10). Sold Kante, Ndidi, Werner and Harvey Barnes - none of them played. Net gain 30 points, plus with Oliver Willingham playing his Captain Joker, Fred took the armband and scored 32.
NOT-SO-TOP TRANSFERS
Mr Magoo were second best for the week with 114 points. But... bought four players who picked up 10 points: Struijk (5), Neves (2), Canos (3), Rose (injured). Sold four who would have earned 21, including Aubameyang (11).

The Halibut Flounderers, bought Liam Cooper (5) and Rodrigo (1). Sold Lewis Dunk (7) and Raul Jimenez (7). Net loss 8 points.
